Food Pantry Drive Challenge
Summer is officially upon us, and while the parks and pools are filled with children, the shelves at the Northfield Township Food Pantry are becoming bare. "We get a lot of support throughout the year, but the food tends to run dry toward the later part of the summer when many ofour families need it the most," says Jill Brickman, Northfield Township Supervisor, of the community funded food pantry that serves more than 600 families.
The Glenview Chamber’s Young Professionals of Group (YPG), led by chairman Chris Falcon, owner of Reactive Performance Enhancement Center, have responded to the call by organizing a food drive to help support the needs of the families whose children might go without a meal, due to not getting breakfast or lunch at school
"This is yet another example of the community taking care of its own," said Falcon who has sat down with other community leaders to see what issues the Chamber’s young professionals group could address.
With a goal of putting 100 boxes in 100 businesses, the Young Professionals group encourages all Glenview businesses to get involved. "There is no better way of putting a spotlight on your business, than by being a leader in your community," says Tina Cahanin of Aloft at the Glen Town Center, and YPG food drive team leader. To "fill the cupboards," Glenview businesses are invited to help the cause by placing food collection boxes in their places of business, and encouraging their patrons and staff to bring in all nonperishable foods. All they need to do is contact the Chamber to get started.
“We are inviting our residents to work with business owners by bringing contributions to these donation boxes around Glenview, so that we can fill the cupboardsâ€, said Chamber executive director Betsy Baer. “Glenview is an amazing Village full of people who care about each other and together we can make sure the food pantry is fully stocked for those who are in need"Â
The food drive is set to run throughout the month of August, with distribution and collection of boxes being orchestrated by David Kohn of Printwell Printing. The Chamber will post a list on their website of all businesses who will be working to collect food for the Northfield Food Pantry.
