Community Unites: Local Food Drive Aims to Nourish Families in Need

This summer, our community is coming together for a heartwarming initiative – a food drive aimed at supporting local families in need. As residents embark on their travels and enjoy their time off, the shelves at the Northfield Township Food Pantry start to deplete. With schools closed, many children are at risk of missing meals, as they no longer have access to subsidized breakfasts or lunches. "We are so grateful to the Glenview Chamber of Commerce's Young Professionals Group for making a difference in the lives of so many who are food insecure in our community," said Northfield Township Supervisor, Shiva Mohsenzadeh. The pantry serves more than 1000+ local families in Glenview, Northbrook and Northfield.

Enter the Summer Food Drive, organized by the Glenview Chamber’s Young Professionals Group (YPG). Friends and neighbors can contribute food at several business locations across the Village, and public institutions, such as the library.  A full list of participating businesses is available on the Chamber’s website, www.glenviewchamber.com/calendar. The Chamber is asking each participating business to collect five brown grocery bags with items like cereal, pasta, canned veggies and fruits and drop off at the pantry during business hours or in the collections boxes outside the building during non-business hours.

The Summer Food Drive runs through the months of August and September.  Businesses in the community are already collecting food for the pantry, with more lining up to join the campaign. “During my time with the Chamber of Commerce, I have consistently been impressed by the high level of involvement and shared energy among members to help each other grow their respective businesses. Building on this collaborative spirit, the Young Professionals Group of the Glenview Chamber is excited to partner with the Northfield Township Pantry to address their year-round need for food donations. By combining our business acumen with a spirit of philanthropy, we can make a real difference in people’s lives and ensure that no one in our community goes hungry,” says one of YPG’s Leader Mike Ryder of Edward Jones.
