When Kids Can't Eat, a Summer Food Drive Kicks in

Every summer, a quiet crisis occurs in Glenview as the temperature mounts and the parks and pools fill with children. That's when the shelves at the Northfield Township Food Pantry, which serves more than 600 local families, begin to empty and some children run the danger of missing meals, due to not getting breakfast or lunch at school.

But this year, citizens and neighbors can help keep food available through a special Summer Food Drive, organized by the Glenview Chamber's Young Professionals of Group (YPG). David Kohn of Printwell Printing, Co-Chair of the YPG Food Drive, is orchestrating the collection of special boxes, which will be located in businesses throughout the Village. The Food Drive runs through the month of August. A full list of participating businesses is available on the Chamber's website, www.GlenviewChamber.com.

"We get a lot of support throughout the year, but the food tends to run dry toward the later part of the summer when many of our families need it the most," Jill Brickman, Northfield Township Supervisor, of the community funded food pantry, explains.

Already some 30 businesses in the community are collecting food for the pantry, with more lining up to join the campaign. "This is yet another example of the community taking care of its own," says YPG's Falcon. Expectations are high: Glenview is an amazing Village full of people who care about each other and together we can make sure the food pantry is fully stocked for those who are in need. "

As a 90-plus-year-old organization dedicated to ensuring that Glenview is a great place to live, work and own a business, the Glenview Chamber of Commerce sponsors community events, runs business-building programs, publishes special offers through Hot Deals and other programs, and generates several community publications.
